Fibroadenoma arising from aberrant breast tissue vulva.
Pak J Pathol Jan ;7(4):49-0.

The primitive milk line extends from axilla to the groin in a seven week old embryo. Ectopic breast tissue can occasionally occur along this line and in the vulva] region. All physiological and pathological changes which affect normal breast can also involve such aberrant tissue. Swelling during pregnancy and lactation, fibroadenoma, fibrocystic changes and even carcinomas have been reported. Here we report a case where vulval swelling was due to fibroadenoma arising from ectopic breast tissue.

A 31 years old female reported to the gynaecology department Combined Military Hospital (CMH) Kharian with the history of swelling in the vulval region for the last two months. The swelling was initially small and then gradually increased in size. On examination a swelling measuring 4x3.5x3 cm with small ulceration of the overlying skin was found on the vulva. Provisional diagnosis of vulval abscess was made and incisional drainage with biopsy was planned. The histopathological examination of the lesion showed proliferation of tubules lined by cuboidal to low columnar cells with roundeduniform nuclei. These tubules were surrounded by loose areolar tissue and inflammatory cells. The diagnosis of fibroadenoma arising from aberrant breast tissue was made.
