Effect of myelofibrosis on bone marrow function in malignant haematological disorders.
Pak J Pathol Jan ;8(4):24-7.

Myelofibrosis presumably affects the bone marrow function adversely. To test this hypothesis we compared conventional parameters of bone marrow function (Hb concentration, Granulocyte count and Platelet count) in two groups of patients with secondary myelofibrosis. Group A included 25 patients of AML and ALL, while Group B, comprised of 20 patients of NHL. Grading of Fibrous Tissue Content (FTC) was performed by visual assessment under a new system. The correlation coefficient (r) was determined and compared using computer programme SPSS/PC+. Our results suggest that the FTC alone does not affect the bone marrow function significantly, instead the bone marrow function is affected by the primary origin of malignancy.
