Endometriosis among Infertile Women: Incidence and Treatment.

Fifty two laparoscopies were done for evaluation of infertility during a period of one year, thirty three for primary infertility and 19 for secondary infertility.Eighteen women were diagnosed to have endometriosis, 14 at the time of laparoscopy and 4 at laparotomy. Disease was staged according to American Fertility Society Classification (Revised 1986). Fourteen patients were put on hormone therapy in postoperative period. In follow-up period, patients were questioned for occurrence of side effects and symptomatic improvement.Ovulation induction was done with clomiphene citrate in 6 patients and with gonadotrophin in one patient. Three patients conceived, two with minimal endometriosis and one with severe endometriosis. All 3 patients had uneventful pregnancies and delivered at term.
