Interaction of Chromium Citrate and Glibenclamide in Rabbits.
Mother & Child Jan ;35(4):121-8.

The interaction of chromium citrate and Ghbenclamide was studied In 24 healthy albino rabbits. /n normal glucose loaded rabbits, chromium showed insignificant hypoglycemic effect after single dose but the effect was well marked after multiple administrations for 4 days. However, after 7 daily doses with chromium the hypoglycemia effect of the compound was not so marked. Nevertheless the glucose lowering effect of chromium was more marked in alloxanized rabbits as compared to normal glucose loaded rabbits after chronic therapy. The present data failed to exhibit the phenomena of pharmacological addition/synergism when chromium and glibenclamide were given concurrently. This may be partly because of some common mechanism(s) probably being saturated by the combined therapy and in part associated to the prevention of elevation in serum glucose level with chromium therapy.
