An Analysis of Adnexal Masses in Reproductive Age Group.

To find out prevalence and epidemiology of various adnexal masses in the reproductive age group, a prospective study was conducted in Gynaecology Unit I of Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, Lahore, from 1st May 1994 to 30th April 1995. During this period 1562 patients were admitted in the said unit. Out of which 72 patients were diagnosed to have an adnexal mass. 39 (54.16%) patients had non-neoplastic adnexal masses. Among this group inflammatory masses were most common. 33 (45.83%) patients had neoplastic adnexal masses arising either from the ovary or pelvic ligaments. 20 (27.77%) had benign ovarian tumours, 5(6.88%l had malignant ovarian tumours and 81 (11.11%) had tumours arising from the pelvic ligaments. Out of total 72 patients 14 were managed conservatively, 1 patient had laparoscopic aspiration of endometriotic cyst and 58 patients underwent laparotomy.
