Mother & Child Jan ;13(2):71-5.

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is under-recognized leaving many patients with lifelong psychological handicap and their parents with stigmatizing misery. 33 children having ADHD were diagnosed according to the LCD-10 Research Diagnostic Criteria among the consecutive attenders of Child Psychiatric Unit of Mayo Hospital, Lahore during 1997. Prevalence rate of 2.49% and frequency pattern of impulsivity (28.1%), peer interaction disturbances (26.7%), inattention (23.5%) and hyperactivity (21.7%) in descending order was found. Extensive educational programmes for parent, teachers and refresher courses for medical personnels would help improve the chances of early intervention by experts and minimize the plight of ADHD patients.
