Laparoscopic Ovarian Diathermy in Polycystic Ovarian Disease.

Thirteen cases of polycystic ovarian disease (PCOD) were subjected to laparoscopic ovarian diathermy (LOD) after failure of response to clomiphene citrate therapy during November 1994 to May 1995. Their ages ranged from 21-36 years. Ten (76.92%) of them had primary infertility and 3 cases (23.08%) secondary infertility. At time of operative laparoscopy, apart from polycystic ovaries, associated findings were endometriotic spots in 2 women, sub-serosal fibroid In 2 cases and flimsy adhesions in one case. Eight women (61.5%) had spontaneous resumption of ovulation while 5 cases (38.46%) ovulated with clomiphene citrate therapy. Seven patients (53.84%) conceived while 6 146.1 5%l did not achieve a pregnancy Inspite of regular ovulation. Among those who conceived, five patients (38.45%) delivered at term and 2 cases (15.38%) ended in spontaneous abortion.
