Knowledge and Practices of Medical Students Regarding Hepatitis B and its Prevention.

A KAP study was conducted in 327 students of Allama lqbal Medical College, Lahore to test their knowledge regarding transmission and prevention of Hepatitis 8. One Hundred and ninety six were from clinical years and 131 were from preclinical years. With regard to transmission, 96.4% clinical students correctly identified contaminated needles and syringes as a mode of transmission compared to 76.3% of preclinical students (P<0.05I.Blood transfusion was identified by 94.8% of clinical and 78.6% of preclinical students, sexual transmission by 81.4% of clinical and 24.4% preclinical students (P<0.001), vertical transmission by 80.1% of clinical and 35.8% of preclinical students.Vaccination was identified as preventive measure by 97.4% of clinical and 93.9% of preclinical students. A significantly smaller number of preclinical students mentioned screening of blood as preventive measures.
