Simple (Massive) Nasal Polyps - Difficult to treat.
Biomedica Jan ;13(2):73-84.

Simple nasal polyps (Mucous Polyps) are often multiple and need surgical removal. A study was carried out in sixty such patients, treated surgically. Two groups of patients were made, one half had intranasal Polypectemy alone (groups 1), and other half had intranasal polypectomy and intranasal ethmoidectomy (group 11). Follow up of 2 years was done in these cases post-operatively to see any recurrence. It was noticed that a high percentage of group I patients had recurrence and later on needed ethmoidectomy. In group II patients the recurrence rate was very low. Simple Polyps is a disease of ethmoid sinuses mainly but other sinuses (maxillary, spheniod and frontal) are also involved and have to be cleared at the same time. It is concluded that massive simple Polyps should be surgically treated more radically at first operation, intranasal polypectomy plus intranasal ethmoidectomy is the choice.
