Nosheen Omer.
High incidence of persistent Median artey.
Biomedica Jan ;13(2):85-7.

This study was conducted on 92 formalin fixed upper limbs. Median artery was found to be persistent in 21 (22.8%) limbs. In 14 (15.2%) limbs the median artery originated from the ulnar artery whereas in 7 (7.6%) limbs from the common interosseous artery. The median artery terminated in forearm in 17 (18.5%) limbs, in the hand in 3 (3.2%) limbs. In one limb (1.1%) the median artery crossed deep to the flexor retinaculum to complete the superfical palmar arch. The arch was considered to be media-noulnar type and supplied all the common digital branches in the absence of contribution from the radial artery.
