Prevalence of acute renal failure in patients developing Abruptio Placentae as a consequence of PIH.

This study was conducted in 1990 for 5 years from 1985-90. All patients coming with APH were admitted. The diagnosis of placental abruption was made clinically, ultrasound exclusion of placenta previa or EUA. There were a total of 8,766 patients admitted in the labor room. Out of which 1,147 came with history of APH (13.08%). There were 416 cases of placenta previa, (4.77%), 101 misc. causes such as heavy show, cervical polyp and undetermined causes (1.1%) and 630 cases ie 7.18% had abruptio placentae. There were 12 patients in his series with renal failure ie less than 40ml of urine in 24 hours.
