Foreign bodies in the Larynx and Tracheo-Bronchial Tree.

Foreign body aspiration is an acute paediatric emergency. Children aspirate a wide variety of vegetable and non-vegetable objects leading to mechanical obstruction of the ariway with significant morbidity and mortality. This study comprised of an analysis of 14 cases of foriegn body aspiration managed at Combined Military Hospital Kharian from June 1998 to May 2000. History of foreign body aspiration was positive in 79% of cases. Most of them (57%) were children under 3 years of age. The majority were boys (71%). Portion of the nut and plastic objects were the most common foreign bodies retrieved. Right bronchus was the most common site of lodgement. There was only one mortality.
