An experience with Clarithromycin in Acute Exacerbation of Choronic Bronchitis.

This study includes 64 patients of acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis. It was observed that Clarithromycin twice a day provides an effective and safer means of 250 mg in controling such infections. A total of 64 patients were enrolled after taking Clarithromycin 250mg twice daily for a period of 7-10 days, 59 of them responded completely and all their signs and symptoms disappeared. Pathogenic eradication of S. Pneumonia was seen in 94.82% ie 33 patients out of 25 and H. Influenza eradication was found in 90% ie 18 patients out of 20, S. Aurues success rate was 85.7% ie 6 patients out of 7, Klebsiella pneumonia, only two patients were found to have complete eradication ie 100%. Five patients did not respond due to non-complaince or having super infections.
