Deciduous dentition characteristics in orthodontics-prevalence and importance.
J Pak Dent Assoc Jan ;18(3):107-12.

OBJECTIVE: The aim of the study was to investigate the deciduous molar and canine relationships, and the presence or absence of developmental spaces. METHODOLOGY: In the study, 78 children were examined. The male: female ratio was 37:41, respectively. The age ranged from 2.8 years to 5.5 years age (mean 4.2 years). RESULTS: Flush terminal plane was the highest prevalent deciduous molar relationship in both sexes, followed by the mesial step, and the distal step. Class one primary canine was the most prevalent canine relationship. Furthennore, 2-4 mm developmental spaces were noted in both maxilla and mandible in both sexes. CONCLUSION: Early clinical evaluation in the deciduous dentition is essential to diagnose early signs of a developing malocclusion.
