Fetal Well Being in Early Pregnancy.

A study was conducted in Radiology and Gynae Department, Jinnah Hospital Lahore from January 1999. A total of 200 women with gestational age upto 14-week were included in the study and were divided into two groups, according to reliability or otherwise of their stated date of last menstrual period and regularity of their menstrual cycle. The detailed pelvic ultrasound regarding the viability and location of pregnancy, gestational age, risk of miscarriage, and fetal abnormalities was carried out. The findings of ultrasound scan were analyzed. In 2 patients (i.e., 1%) congenital malformation, 6 (i.e., 3%) multiple pregnancies, 8 (i.e., 4%) missed abortion and 1 (i.e., 0.5%) ectopic pregnancy was diagnosed. Majority of pregnancies were normal. The ultrasound in early pregnancy provided useful information and reassurance to mother.
