Short Communication Multiple bizarre linear scars on the forearm.
J Pak Assoc Derma Jan ;22(2):172-8.

Sir, a 21-year-unmarried female came to our department accompanied by her parents. They complained of multiple linear scar arranged in bizarre configuration over both the forearms (Figures 1 and 2) since 1 year which was a major cosmetic concern for them. On further enquiry, it was found that there was history of bleeding from the lesions 1 year back for which she was treated at a rural health centre. There was total denial of self-inflicted injury. She had suffered from polio since childhood, for which her father had taken her to several centres for treatment. She also had undergone an operation for limb stability 5 years back which was not successful. According to her mother at that time she was depressed following the result of the operation. At present she is on a wheel chair with regular physiotherapy. She is a graduate and has a normal mental status. On further questioning, she admitted to taking zolpidem tablets every night since 8 months the reason being inadequate sleep. Her mother finally revealed self-inflicted injury by her daughter one year back because of depression. A complete hemogram was done and was within normal limits. She was counselled and then referred to a psychiatrist who has put her on tablet paroxetine 12.5 mg daily in the afternoon. She is on regular follow up at monthly interval and is presently doing well.
