Ethmoidal Encephalocele with Median Cleft Lip.

This is a case report of ethmoidal encephalocoele with median cleft lip representing one of the midline fusion defects in the region of the base of the skull.

A One year old male baby presented with a midline defect of upper lip and a small swelling visible in the mouth. On examination the swelling was shiny, whitish, firm, non tender and non-compressible. He was also having median cleft lip, depressed nasal bridge and hypertelorism. CT scan was requested which showed a basal encephalocoele through an ethmoidal defect. Labioplasty was done and the patient was referred to the neurosurgery unit for repair of the encephalocoele.
