Ann Abbasi Shaheed Hosp Karachi Med Dent Coll Jan ;4:135-42.

This study reports various bacteria isolated from blood over a period of 3 years. Blood samples were collected from patients suspected of septicaemia. The result revealed that commonest cause of septicaemia in this community is Salmonella typhi followed by Staphylococcus aureus. E. coli is the third common organism isolated from these blood cultures. Other organisms isolated are Streptococcus viridans, Klebsiella pneumonia, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Beta Hemolytic Streptococcus group A, Neisseria meningitidis, and Pseudomonas paucimobilis. The antibiotic sensitivity pattern was analyzed. It was also determined if empirical use of particular antibiotics followed the pattern of sensitivity.
