Pak J Surg Jan ;30(2):183-6.

Introduction: Injection Bupivacain is a long acting local anaesthetic agent. It has a long half life more than four hours. Objective: To evaluate the results of peri-incisional infi ltration and intraperitoneal instillation of bupivacain to achieve good postoperative pain relief and to decrease the requirement of postoperative narcotic analgesia. Sett ing and duration: Th is study carried out at King Abdullah Hospital, Bisha, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia from June 2011 to June 2013. Material and methods: Th is prospective study consists of 200 cases of who underwent Laproscopic Cholecystectomy during the above period. All the cases were admitt ed under the team of two surgeons. 100 of these cases were given local infi ltration of Injection Bupivacain at the closure of port site wounds. 100 cases were observed without local infi ltration of Injection Bupivacain at the port site. All the data entered into prescribed form and was evaluated by SPSS Version 17. Results: All those patients who have intra incisional infi ltration of Injection Bupivacain has less demand of narcotic (Pethidine) as compared to those who did not have local infi ltration of injection Bupivacain. Conclusion: We conclude that intraincisional injection Bupivacain just before closure of the wound and intraperitoneal instillation of Bupivacain greatly decreases the demand of Narcotic Analgesia.
