Outcome of posteromedial release in late presented cases of congenital talipes equinovarus.

Objective: To determine the functional and cosmetic results of posteromedial release in late presented cases of club foot . Design: Descriptive observational study. Sett ing and duration: Mardan Medical Complex, Bacha Khan Medical College Mardan, from May 2010 to December 2012. Material and methods: 46 patients of talepes equinovarus of 1 to 3 years of age were selected. One stage posteromedial release without Kirschner wire fi xation done under general anesthesia. Patients were followed for ten months to one year. Results were assessed according to the Mckay Grading. Results: Out of 46 patients, 30(65.21%) were male, 16(34.7%) were female with mean age 18 months. 25 (54.3%) patients had bilateral deformity while 21(45.7%) had unilateral deformity. Excellent results were achieved in 30(65.2%), good results in 12(26%) patients, fair results in 4(8.69%) patients and poor results in 2(4.34%) patients. Conclusion: Posteromedial release for Talepes Equinovarus yields excellent and good results in majority of late presented cases of clubfoot.
