Evaluation of Left Ventricular Dimensions by Echocardiography in Essential Hypertensive Patients.
J Rawal Med Coll Jan ;3(1-2):11-2.

The role of hypertension in the causation of various vascular complications is now well established. The interventricular septum (I.V.S.) and posterior wall of the left ventricle were visualised in the echocardiogram. In addition the end diastolic (Dd) and end systolic (Ds) dimensions were determined. Out of all three hypertensive groups (mild, moderate and severe) the significant difference (P<0.05) was found in Ds and Dd of severe hypertensives compared with Ds and Dd of normotensive controls. Our results correlate with the reports published previously regarding dimension of left ventricle in moderate and severe hypertensives. It is concluded that moderate and severe hypertensives indicate hypofunction in their ability to pump adequate quantity of blood.
