Heart Blocks as Predictors of Mortality in Acute Anterior Myocardial Infarction.
J Rawal Med Coll Jan ;3(1-2):13-6.

A prospective study looking for heart blocks as predictors of mortality in 54 cases of Acute Anterior Myocardial Infarction (MI) is documented. Heart blocks occurred in 23 cases (42.6%).SA node blocks were absent. First degree heart blocks were present in 26.5%, Mobitz type II in 2.9%, Left Anterior Hemiblock (LAHB) in 2.9%, Left Bundle Branch Block (LBBB) in 14.7%. Right Bundle Branch Block(RBBB) in 8.8% and Third Degree Block in 11.8% of cases. 2:1 type was completely absent. Non specific inter-ventricular conduction disturbances were seen in 48.5% cases. All the four cases of Third Degree Block died during their hospital stay. Twenty two percent of 1St Degree block and 20% of LBBB died during their hospital stay. It was concluded that Heart blocks severely worsen the prognosis in acute anterior MI, and should be keenly observed and monitored if present.
