J Rawal Med Coll Jan ;19(1):102-4.

Kikuchi-Fujimoto Disease (KFD) is a rare condition of unknown cause which was first reported in Japan in the year 1972. It is also known as histiocytic necrotizing lymphadenitis. KFD is an inexplicable, benign and self limited disease. It is characterized by tender peripheral lymphadenopathy primarily in the cervical region, which is usually accompanied by mild fever and night sweats. 1 Tuberculosis (TB) is a worldwide health issue. Pakistan stands 5th in the list of high burden TB countries.2 Diagnosis of TB is based on microbiological and histopathological basis. In Pakistani scenario patients with suspected diagnosis of TB frequently receive antituberculous therapy (ATT) based on clinical acumen.3 KFD and TB are important causes of pyrexia of unknown origin.4 Coexistence of these diseases has also been noted.5 Very few cases of KFD have been reported in Pakistan and there is a general lack of knowledge among doctors about this disease.6 We describe here a report of young male who was diagnosed as a case of KFD and subsequently treated for TB.
