J Rawal Med Coll Jan ;3(1-2):27-31.

This prospective study was carried out in the breast clinic at Holy Family Hospital, Rawalpindi over past one year. Modes of presentation and their final outcome are discussed. Different treatment options employed are reviewed. Various ways of Immediate breast reconstruction and their results are discussed. Conclusion: Carcinoma of the breast is a common disease in the women of our country. Due to lack of awareness, the presentation of the disease is usually in the advanced stages. Mass public awareness can just be overstressed . With our deeper understanding of the disease process, its molecular biology and with long term studies we are now reverting away from the Halstedian school of thought, towards more conservatism. Skin Sparing Mastectomies and lumpectomies with and with out reconstructions have added more dignity to the life of these ladies. Importance of neoadjuvant chemotherapy cannot be over stressed in local control of the disease, making surgery less radical and at times possible, Prognostic factors must be sought for since questions. from patients are ever increasing and also if we have to define appropriate customized treatment protocols for our own population since I believe that this disease is different from what we see in West.
