Aetiological Factors of Bronchial Asthma in A Rural Area of Upper Punjab.
J Rawal Med Coll Jan ;2(1-2):3-5.

Seventy adult patients suffering from bronchial asthma were seen in medical camps conducted in the rural areas of upper Punjab from 1St January to 31St December 1997. Inquiries were made about the factors responsible for triggering the attacks. Respiratory tract infection, weather changes and cold weather were found to be the cause of most attacks of asthma. Dust, pollen, emotional state and exercise were also the provocative factors in many cases. Fifty seven (81%) of patients resided in cramped congested living quarters with large families occupying a single ill-ventilated room and burning wood for cooking and providing heat. It is concluded that environmental factors play an important role in the causation of bronchial asthma.
