Pak J Surg Jan ;31(1):20-4.

Introduction: Round-block technique (RBT) is a unique procedure in which abnormal breast tissue is excised through a periareolar incision and the breast is reshaped. RBT can also be adapted for removal of tumor that are more centrally located especially in breast cancer patients with small to medium sized breasts. Moreover, compared with circumareolar incision, doughnut technique provides wider exposure for tissue resection and remodeling without sacrifi cing the cosmetic outcome with an advantage of inconspicuous post-operative scar and favorable aesthetic results. Methods: Th irty one patients were included in this study out of which 29 were benign fi broadenomas, and 2 were malignant lumps who underwent RBT between February 2012to October 2014 at Surgical unit, ward 2 JPMC. Preoperative, intra-operative and post-operative variables were analyzed. Results: Out of all 31 patients who underwent RBT, 29 (93.55%) were benign, and 2(6.45%) were malignant. Th ere were satisfactory margins of resection achieved; there were no reported wound infection or recurrence in any of our patients. Conclusion: RBT is a relatively newer technique used in centrally located breast tumors associated with wider surgical exposure, favorable cosmetic results and high degree of patient satisfaction.
