Clinic-o-Morphological Features and Prognostic Indicators in Chronic Myeloid Leukaemia.
J Rawal Med Coll Jan ;2(1-2):11-4.

A clinico-morphological study of 79 patients of chronic myeloid leukaemia, at the time of diagnosis, is presented. Majority of the patients belonged to middle age group. juvenile type of CML was observed in 3 cases. Both the sexes were equally involved. Fever and splenomegaly were consistent findings. Twenty six patients (33%), at their diagnosis, manifested indicators with poor prognosis - These cases presented with 4 or more than 4 out of 7 following bad prognostic features: Splenomegaly greater than 15 cm below costal margin; hepato-megaly greater than 6 cm below costal margin; anaemia (Haemoglobin less than 10 gram/dl); leucocyte count more than, 100 x 109/1; thrombocytopenia (Platelet count less than 150 x 109/1); thrombocytosis (Platelet count more than 500 x 109/1) and presence of blasts plus promyelocytes above 20%, in the bone marrow. These prognostic parameters can be helpful for better selection of therapeutic strategies and for better under-standing of the biologic aspects of the disease.
