Secondary Implantation of Intraocular Lenses.

In 30 patients secondary intraocular lens implantations were performed between December 1986 and November 1994. In 17 patients with intact posterior lens capsules retropupillary lenses were implanted with cleaning of the capsular surface by means of irrigation/aspiration. Lysis of anterior and/or posterior synechie was done where necessary. 13 patients, having had intracapsular cataract extraction, received anterior chamber lens Implants. Anterior vitrectomy, when Indicated, was also carried out with Weck cells. Postoperatively, the visual acuities were found to be the same as the preoperative best corrected readings in 7 of 17 cases (41.48%) with posterior chamber lenses and in 8 of 13 cases (61.41%) receiving anterior chamber lenses. visual acuities were better by 1-2 lines on Snellen chart postoperatively in 9 of 17 cases (52.92%) and 2 of 13 cases (15.59%) in the respective groups. One patient receiving posterior chamber lens and 3 receiving anterior chamber lenses lost 1-2 lines on Snellen chart.
