Contact Lens Complications: A Retrospective Study from A Contact Lens Clinic in Pakistan.

Among the two thousand contact lenses dispensed between 1988 and 1992, a retrospective study was carried out to assess the complications in contact lens wearers. Corneal ulcers developed in 7 patients (0.35%), superficial punctate epithelial keratitis in 4 (0.2%) and sterile corneal infiltrates in 2 patients (0.1%). Giant papillary conjuctivitis (GPC) was the most common complication In 140 (7%) patients. Minor problems i.e., chemical conjuctivitis, allergies, conjuctival irritation due to lens and overworn lenses were also common presentations in 425 (21.2%) patients.
