Pak J Ophthalmol Jan ;11(3):63-8.

A retrospective analysis of 12 patients with retinoblastoma admitted at Shaikh Zayed Postgraduate Medical Institute, Lahore, from December, 1986 to November, 1993 was undertaken. The clinical presentation, treatment, and outcome of the patients were studied. Ten (83.33%) patients were male and two (16.67%) were female. The condition was unilateral in 11 (99.67%) patients and bilateral in the remaining 1(8.33%) patient. The diagnosis of retinoblastoma was made on the basis of indirect oplithalmoscopy with scleral indentation after full mydriasis and radiological investigations like orbital X-rays, ultrasonography and CT scanning. Eleven patients underwent enucleation of the globe with orbital implant. All these were confirmed to be retinoblastoma on histological examination. Parents of one patient with suspected retinoblastoma refused any treatment and the case was lost to follow-up. One (8.33%) patient additionally received chemotherapy and radiotherapy for his local and distant metastases but did not survive. Follow-up period of the remaining ten patients (88.33%) ranged from 1-1/2 years to 8-1/2 years. Till June, 1995 all these patients were disease-free.
