Analysis of Short-Term Effect of two viscoelastic agents on Intraocular Pressure after Extracapsular Cataract Extraction and Posterior Chamber Lens Implantation.
Pak J Ophthalmol Jan ;12(2):64-5.

We conducted a study to evaluate short-term effect on intraocular pressure (10P) following extracapsular cataract extraction and posterior chamber lens implantation, using either Sodium hyaluronate 1% (Healon) or Hydroxypropyl methylcellulose 2%. A rise in Intraocular pressure was noted on the first postoperative day in 25% of cases in the former group and in 13.3% of cases in the latter group. A significant decline of pressure between the third and the fifth postoperative days was observed following treatment with acetazolamide and Betoptic. At day seven both groups had returned to preoperative values. Removal of viscoelastics at the end of surgery reduced the chances of postoperative elevation of intraocular pressure.
