Dacryocystorhinostomy: Importance of anastomosis between Anterior and Posterior Flaps.
Pak J Ophthalmol Jan ;12(4):129-31.

A prospective study was designed at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) to compare the success rate in dacryocystorhinostomy (DCR) done by two different surgical techniques. We operated upon 94 patients suffering from chronic dacryocystitis presenting to our OPO in years 1994 and 1995. In the first group, which consisted of 42 patients, both anterior and posterior flaps of lacrimal sac and nasal mucosa were anastomosed and a silicon stent was placed. In the second group of 52 patients, silicon stent was placed but no care was taken of the posterior flaps. Only anterior flaps were sutured. Success rate was 97.6% in the first series and 94.2% in the second series of patients in six months to two years of follow-up, average being eight months.
