The role of early Postoperative Intraocular Pressure in Prediction of the eventual Success or Failure of a Trabeculectomy.
Pak J Ophthalmol Jan ;12(4):132-5.

Purpose: The outcome of trabeculectomy can be influenced in the postoperative period by intervention with techniques like laser suture lysis or wound modulation with antimetabolite therapy. We examined the role of early postoperative intraocular pressure (I0P) in predicting the success of trabeculectomy. Method: 78 consecutive patients undergoing trabeculectomy were examined retrospectively. The 10P at 2 weeks was taken as the early postoperative 10P. The trabeculectomy was considered to be successful if the 10P was 16 MM of Hg or less without additional treatment at 12 months. Conclusion: The statistical optimal Intraocular pressure for discriminating success from failure was 15 mmHg (sensitivity 0.45, specificity 0.83). The model suggested that intraocular pressure could be used as one of the indices for discriminating success from failure in the early postoperative period.
