Effectiveness of Peribulbar Anesthesia in Comparison with Combined Retrobulbar and Facial Nerve Block for Anterior Segment Ocular Surgery.
Pak J Ophthalmol Jan ;13(3):75-7.

In this randomized prospective study we compared the effectiveness of combined retrobulbar and facial nerve block, with that of peribulbar block, for anterior segment ocular surgery. One hundred and twenty patients were randomly divided into two groups. Group I received retrobulbar block combined with facial nerve block. Group 11 received peribulbar block. Anesthetic agent used was a mixture of equal volumes of 2% lignocaine and 0.5% bupivacaine. Ten minutes after the block, the effectiveness was assessed on the basis of eyelid movements, ocular movements and intraocular pressure. No significant difference was found in the overall effectiveness of anesthesia between the two groups.
