Surgical management of Ptosis: A Simplified Approach.
Pak J Ophthalmol Jan ;13(4):98-102.

We present a study of 37 patients, admitted with ptosis over a period of 15 months, from November 1994 to January 1996. Eleven patients had bilateral ptosis, thus making it 48 ptotic eyelids. Congenital ptosis was the commonest presentation 165.0%) while myasthenia gravis and third nerve palsy comprised majority of cases among the acquired group. More than half the patients were below 15 years and male to female ratio was 2:1. We performed surgery on 25 eyelids. It was confined to either levator aponeurosis resection or its modification, or frontals suspension procedure. We used local anaesthesia in cases of levator aponeurosis resection so as to assess the lid height during surgery. We achieved good results in 88.8% of cases. We, therefore, feel justified to advocate the advantages of these simplified procedures over a multitude of different procedures mentioned in the literature.
