Levator Resection in Congenital Ptosis with Poor Levator Function.
Pak J Ophthalmol Jan ;13(4):103-7.

13 eyes of 12 patients with congenital ptosis were operated upon. Eight patients (66.6%) were male and 4(33.3) were female. The age range was 3 to 25 years with a mean of 10.7 years. The amount of ptosis varied from 3-7mm with a mean of 4.46mm. Levator function ranged from 2-4mm with a mean of 3.46mm. The levator resection varied from 14 to 28 mm with a mean of 19.85mm. By calculating the Pearson correlation coefficient it is evident that levator resection is not dependent on levator function (T=0.11, p one-tail=0.35). 10 Patients (76.9%) had a good postoperative lid level by either exactly matching or being within 1mm of the normal level, 2 (15.4%) eyelids had a fair lid level in being within 2mm of normal in the patient who had bilateral ptosis, while 1 patient (7.7%) was lost to follow-up. Levator resection is a practical and feasible option in the management of congenital ptosis with poor levator function.
