Positive effects of parental involvement on Down`s syndrome children in KPK.

OBJECTIVES: To what extent the parental involvement improves the developmental maturity of children with down syndrome. What is the importance of parental feedback on Learning Experience of the Down's syndrome. STUDY DESIGN: A community based cross-sectional descriptive study. PLACE AND DURATION: Study was Conducted from 2005-2006 at different special child institutes of KPK and at their own homes. METHODOLOGY: Parents of thirty children with Down's syndrome with age range of 4-15 years from different areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province were selected for the present study. The Observations and Self-constructed questionnaire based interview were conducted RESULTS: Results indicated that parental motivation, education and feedback do contribute to a considerable extent in the development of the child with Down's syndrome. The parents do bring considerable changes by promoting their children's development highly responsive interactions. The parents were found to have higher motivation (P < 0.01.) the parental feedback and exposure were also found to be highly significant at (p<0.01) and (p<0.05) respectively CONCLUSION: The conducive parental involvement is a healthy indicator in the development maturity of down syndrome children in Pakistan.
