Comparison of Pre and Postoperative Astigmatism: Review of 120 Cases of Phacoemulsification.
Pak J Ophthalmol Jan ;15(2):69-71.

One hundred and twenty cases of phacoemulsification done at the American Eye Center, Lahore, were reviewed retrospectively and pre and postoperative astigmatism was compared. Average postoperative followup was nine months. Twenty-three out of 120 patients had clear corneal Incisions, 21 had timbal incisions and 76 scleral tunnel incisions. Overall, 74 patients (61.6%) had less than ID of astigmatism, 37 (30.8%) had less than 2D, 9(7.5%) had less than 3D and none had over 3D of astigmatism. Surgically induced astigmatism, however, was less than that as quite a few of the patients had preexisting astigmatism. Thirty-seven (30.8%) patients had preexisting astigmatism of 1 or more diopters. An attempt was made to correct their astigmatism. Twenty-two patients had their astigmatism reduced, 9 remained unchanged and 6 were overcorrected.
