Pak J Ophthalmol Jan ;15(3):117-20.

In this prospective, double-blind, randomized study, we compared the effectiveness of ketorolac tromethamine (Toradol) and pethidine in preventing postoperative pain in the first 24 hours after dacryocystorhinostomy (OCR). Ketorolac Is a strong nonsteroldal anti-inflammatory drug. 30 patients were randomly allocated to receive 1mg/1Kg inj. pethidine i.m. or 0.5mglKg inj. ketorolac i.m. on six hourly basis. The visual analogue score showed both the drugs to be equally effective in pain relief. The incidence of side effects like nausea, vomiting, respiratory depression and sedation, was significantly more in patients receiving pethidine (p<0.05). Patient`s evaluation of the degree of satisfaction with postoperative analgesia was significantly more in ketorolac group. The results of the study show that pethidine and ketorolac In the doses mentioned above are equally good analgesics for postoperative pain relief In the first 24 hours after DCR and ketorolac has significantly less side effects.
