According to the National Health Survey of Pakistan conducted between 1990 and 1994, 20.4 % of the population aged 20 years and above Is suffering from unilateral or bilateral cataracts. As cataract is the malor cause of preventable blindness, different measures have been adopted to control the current situation. However, these measures are not proving sufficient or very successful. The authors, therefore, suggest a few changes In the existing health system to Improve the situation.
