Combined Phacoemulsification, Intraocular Lens Implantation and Trabeculectomy.

Purpose: To determine the safety and efficacy of primary combined phacoemulsification, intraocular lens (l00 implantation, and trabeculectomy. Setting: Suburban ophthalmology practice. Methods: Data on 204 consecutive eyes (155 patients) who underwent combined phacoemulsification, IOL implantation and trabeculectomy were retrospectively examined. Results: 93% of the eyes had a minimum of 6 months of follow-up. Mean follow-up was 29.7 months. Preoperative mean intraocular pressure 110P) was 21.7mm of Hg with a mean of 1.66 glaucoma medications. Postoperative mean IOP was 17.8mm of Hg with a mean of 0.16 glaucoma medications. Postoperative best-corrected visual acuity was 20140 or better in 79% of the eyes. Conclusion: Combined phacoemulsification, IOL implantation and trabeculectomy provided good visual acuity and excellent 10P control with low complication rate.
