Incidence of Hepatitis B and C Surgical Patients.
Ann Abbasi Shaheed Hosp Karachi Med Dent Coll Jan ;5:188-91.

A study of hepatitis B (HB) and C (HC) was conducted among 750 surgical patients. All were screened serologically for HBsAg and HC antibody. Simultaneous presence of many risk factors in most of the patients were noted. 140 (18.66%) patients were found HBsAg positive and 122 (16.24%) were positive for HC Antibody no risk factor was found in 62 patients positive for HB and HC. 80% of HB and HC positive patients had no past history of jaundice. None of the 750 patients were found vaccinated against HB. The poor reliability of risk factors association as prediction for HB and HC carriers make it more important to screen all hospital patients serologically.
