Fetal haemoglobin levels in hematological malignancies.

Pattern of Fetal Haemoglobin levels in 60 patients of haematological malignancies, as compared to 20 apparently healthy controls, is presented. HbF levels were found to he significantly raised (P<0.001) in Hodgkin`s Disease (60% of cases), Non-Hodgkin`s Lyrnphomas (60% of cases), Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (64.3% of cases), Acute Myeloid Leukaemia (69.3% of cases and Chronic Myeloid Leukaemia (75% of cases). HbF evels were invariably raised in cases of lymphoma showing marrow infiltration, chronic myeloid leukaemia patients manifesting blastic crisis and multiple myeloma. A patient of juvenile chronic myeloid leukaemia showed a marked elevation of HbF level (45%).
