Isra Med J Jan ;8(3):182-6.

OBJECTIVE: To compare the outcome of pregnancy in booked and unbooked mothers with regards to the maternal complications and fetal outcome. STUDY DESIGN: A hospital based prospective case control study PLACE AND DURATION: The study was conducted at Department of Obstetrics and Gumaecology at Ziauddin Hospital Kemari Campus st th which is affiliated with Ziauddin University, from 1 January 2013 to 30 December 2013. METHODOLOGY: 400 patients were included in the study in which 200 were booked and 200 were unbooked. We included all patients who presented to labor room for delivery or cesarean section. Educational status and social class were evaluated in both groups. Mode of delivery was noted and maternal and perinatal morbidity and perinatal mortality were compared between booked and unbooked females. RESULT: According to our study results booked mothers were more likely to be educated(77.5%) and had better socio economic status(56.5%-upper and middle class)as compared to unbooked mothers(educated-56% and 70.5% lower class). Maternal as well as perinatal complications were seen more frequently in unbooked as compared to the booked pregnancies. However, in our study unbooked mothers were more likely to deliver vaginally as compared to booked. CONCLUSION: We conclude from our study that non booked status is associated with increased maternal and perinatal morbidity.
