Prevalence of Neutropenia in Cases of Neonatal Sepsis.

The objectives of the study were to ascertain the prevalence of neutropenia among cases of probable and culture proven neonatal sepsis at the time of admission, and to assess association between neutropenia and mortality. All cases of probable and proven neonatal sepsis admitted in Fazle-Omar Hospital Rabwah from November 2011 to February 2014 were included in the study. Absolute neutrophil count (ANC) below 1800/uL was categorized as neutropenia. Seven hundred and forty four cases were included in this study. Median neutrophil count was 11250/uL. Neutropenia was present in 16 (2.1%) cases. There was no association between neutropenia and mortality.
