The treatment of Dermatophytoses and Pityriasis Versicolor with one week orally administered Itraconazole.

Total 46 patients, among them 16 patients (11-Males and 5 females) with superficial dermatophytoses were treated with Itraconazle 200 mg per day for 7 days single dose and 30 patients (22 Males & 8 females) of pityriasis versicolor were treated with the 200 mg of Itraconazole for 7 days. Half of the pityriasis versicolor patients received 100 mg Itraconazole twice daily (group A) where as remaining half of the pityriasis versicolor patients received 200 mg Itraconazole in single dose (Group B). Clinical and mycological parameters were evaluated on weekly basis and final results obtained after 4-weeks of completion of 07 days drug therapy. Only one patient out of 16 dermatophytoses patients complained of mild nauseating effect and two out of thirty patients of pityriasis versicolor (Group B) reported mild epigastric pain during first two days of drug intake. No significant change was detected in patients blood biochemical values. These results proved the safety and efficacy of Itraconazole for the treatment of dermatophytoses and pityriasis versicolor. There were no relapse even after 8 weeks.
