Efficacy and tolerability of Cephradine (Cefrinex) in Bacterial Skin Infections.

Fifty patients were examined for bacterial infections of the skin. Majority of the patients was in the age range 0-10 years. 30 patients were male and 20 were female. Primary skin infection accounted for 88% cases while 12% patients had secondary pyodermas. Amongst the primary pyodermas, folliculitis was the commonest entity, accounting for 18 (36%) cases. This was followed by furunculus 10 cases (12%), impetigo 7 cases (14%) abscesses 7 cases (14%), cellulitis 6 cases (12%) and ecthyma 2 cases (4%). The most common pathogen was Staph aureus. The patients were treated with oral Cephradine (Cerfinex) and assessed at 1 and 2 week. 60% patients became culture negative at the end of one week, while 86% patients became culture negative at the end of 2 weeks. The drug was well tolerated with few side effects.
