Management of Von Hippel`s Disease (Angiomatosis Retinae): A Case Report.
Pak J Ophthalmol Jan ;18(3):80-2.

A 34 years old male presented with rapidly progressive painless deterioration of vision in his right eye over a period of 10 days. Patient had no complaints in his left eye. On examination, his visual acuity in right eye was HM, whereas vision in left eye was 6/6. Examination of left fundus showed two capillary haemangiomas in superior and inferior temporal mid-periphery with dilated and tortuous feeding retinal vessel. Provisional diagnosis of Von Hippel`s disease (angiomatosis retinae) was made with active lesions in the left eye and late sequalae in the right eye. Diagnosis was confirmed by FFA, which revealed hyper-fluorescent lesions with dilated and tortuous feeder vessels. Specialized investigations including MRI brain, renal ultrasonography, CT scan abdomen and 24 hours urinary venyl mendalic acid levels were done to rule out any systemic manifestations. All these were within normal limits. Two sessions of laser photocoagulation of the tumour surface and their feeder vessels were done in the left eye using multiple applications of moderate intensity Argon laser. On both occasions small vitreous haemorrhage occurred after the treatment, which resolved spontaneously within a few days.
