Piso-Hamate Carpal Coalitions: A case report and review of literature.
J Coll Physicians Surg Pak Jan ;9(4):193-4.

Carpal coalitions are rare and occur only in 0.1% to 0.7% of the population. A case with three of Minaar type Piso-hamate coalition in both the wrists is presented here.

CASE REPORT: A 21 year old white male had presented in the emergency room during April 1994 with acute Left wrist pain. No definitive history of wrist injury was elicited. Wrist examination is unremarkable but for some diffuse tenderness in the ulnar carpus on firm palpation, the wrist x-ray showed Minaar type three piso-hamate coalition. Medical record review showed that the patient was seen on four separate occasions for recurrent sprains, twice in each wrist, in previous four years. On all these occasions the wrist was immobilized in short arm cast and the symptoms were completely resolved. Previous x-rays also revealed minaar type three piso-hamate coalition in both the wrist without any fracture or dislocation. In the present visit the wrist was immobilized for three weeks and symptoms were completely relieved. Bilaterally full range of motion of the wrist remained intact. Patient was lost to follow up after three months.
