Int J Rehab Sci Jan ;05(01):28-32.

Objectives: Present study investigated to measure the perception of an interviewer toward the personality traits of female interviewee having voice disorder and also make a comparison between the perception of male and female interviewer toward the female interviewee having voice disorder. Method: Fifty individuals were included in cross sectional survey, who are responsible for conducting interview in their respective departments, were selected by using purposive judgmental sampling technique. An online flyer was used to collect data. After listening taped healthy and disorder voices, interviewers rated female interviewee's personality traits, based on 18 bipolar adjective pairs, on semantic differential scale. At the end of survey, information regarding voice disturbance and name of some common voice disorders were mentioned for the awareness of interviewers. Results: Finding reveals that interviewers perceived female with voice disorder less positive as compared to healthy voice. Moreover female interviewers perception, observed through 60.61 mean value and 15.58 standard deviation for interviewees with voice disorder as compared to male interviewers that presented with 59.94 mean values and standard deviation 16.96. Another important finding reveals that female interviewers perceived those female candidates less decisive, employable, and likeable for an organization. Conclusion: Female interviewees with voice disorder are more susceptible to have less job opportunities. It is observed in earlier investigation that people have negative perception toward female and children with voice disorder or speech and phonological disorder. Some of them also found no difference in perception for healthy and disorder voice. But surprisingly current study is not supporting those findings, it claims that people are less positive toward the female having voice disorder but not negative.
